Topshop Makes Made in Britain Trendy

Made_in_Britain 2

Whilst browsing the online clothes shops the other day, I stumbled across this ‘Made in Britain’ collection on the Topshop website so I just had to share it with you.

On the Topshop website, this collection is described as ‘Slick utilitarian outerwear and sumptuous silk separates combine with graphic and delicate floral prints in the finest textures to create a grown-up collection that exudes charm. This SS13, pay tribute to your heritage and go all British.’

Here are a few of my favourites from this range:

1. Contrast Floral Silk Dress – £70.00

This dress is my absolute favourite in Topshop’s Made in Britain collection. It is designed by Boutique, one of Topshop’s in-house designed collections and is 100% silk. I love the contrasting patterns on this dress against the black, they look like vintage wallpaper!

Picture 62. Long Sleeved Flippy Silk Dress – £75.00

This stylish dress gives a more relaxed and modern look to the wardrobe essential ‘Little Black Dress’. It is also designed by Boutique and is 100% silk. I love its simplicity and the flattering way it hangs.

Picture 73. Jacquard Skirt – £30.00

This skirt is another item designed by Boutique. It has a green jacquard panel and is 68% cotton and 32% polyester. I love the asymmetric style of the skirt and how the green paisley pattern stands out against the black.

Picture 84. Check Shawl Coat – £160.00

This coat is designed by Boutique and is 80% wool and 20% polyamide. I really like the masculine style of this coat and how the relaxed way it hangs makes it feel a bit more feminine.

Picture 105. Crepe Zip Dress – £30.00

This dress is 100% silk and is designed by Unique. I love the way it has a military feel with the khaki colour and a hint of punk with the zips and the shape of the back but still looks very stylish.

I’m not a regular shopper at Topshop anymore now I’m a bit older but I was pleasantly surprised when I found this collection. Please feel free to check it out on the Topshop website and I hope you enjoy browsing as much as I have.

Country Living Fair 2012

Yesterday I went to the Country Living Magazine Spring Fair at the Business Design Centre in London.  I had a lovely day looking at all the pretty goodies on offer on all the amazing stands. It was nice to see so many people selling products that are made in Britain so I thought I would share a few with you.

One of my favourites was Barnickle Furniture as I thought the display really stood out. Lucy Schmidt is the very talented artist from Devon who takes discarded items such as filing cabinets and cable reels and transforms them into statement pieces of furniture by painting various designs on them. So not only does she create her amazing work in Britain but she also does her bit for the environment by recycling unwanted items! I really loved her little coffee tables that were made out of cable reels but my absolute favourite was the red telephone box filing cabinet. She is currently painting a lot of patriotic imagery on her furniture but she does also take custom orders.

There were quite a few clothing stands at the fair this year that I really liked.  One of which was Little Dye House where I bought this super cute camisole.

They offer a range of very pretty Womenswear, girlswear and babywear all lovingly made and dyed in Britain with incredibly soft fabrics. Another company I liked, was Kind Hearts Clothing which also makes beautiful items of clothing in Britain for Women and Children. A lot of their designs have a retro feel and I especially liked the 1940’s style cardigans.

Whenever I go to these fairs, I always want to buy a Tweed Coat or Jacket as they always look so well made.  Welligogs had a selection of British made coats and jackets that looked sooooo amazing!

Not only was there loads of British made clothing for people but I also found some seriously cute wax jackets for dogs on the Redhound for Dogs stand. They also had collars, beds, jumpers, bandanas and treat bags all of which are made in Britain. I just had to buy a wax jacket for my little Westie, Belle! She will have to wait a few days for it to arrive in the post though as the Lady is kindly changing the trim for me.  I will add a photo of Belle wearing it soon!

As a lot of my finds on this post have been a bit girly, I thought I should end with a more MANLY product. I was so impressed with the quality of Alex Pole‘s ironwork that he hand makes in Somerset! His mix of iron and other items such as large pebbles, lawn bowls and blocks of wood really looked stunning! I have definitely got to buy one of his oak doorstops soon! I love the way that they have such a simple and contemporary shape which is contrasted by the natural texture created by the grains of the wood! Absolutely Beautiful!

Welcome to Vicky’s Made In Britain!

Hello everybody,

I am Vicky and I decided to create this blog after watching Mary’s Bottom Line on channel 4 as I found this program very inspiring.  As I grew up in one of the Northamptonshire villages where Dr Martens and lots of other shoes used to be made, I am very passionate about bringing manufacturing back to Britain.

I have a small online business called Vicky’s Vintage Gifts where I sell handmade items and also vintage finds.  On this website, I will soon be selling more gifts designed and made by various talented people in Britain.  This will be a small start to supporting all things made in Britain so I thought I should start a blog as well to add links and any information I can find about other businesses that sell British made products.

As I am new to blogging, it may take me a while to get the hang of it but once I have, I am hoping that I will help to make a difference.

So please follow my blog and join me in spreading the word about bringing manufacturing back to Britain!
